Many years ago Heath and I went to Orlando for our 1 year anniversary/honeymoon we never had. We did EVERYTHING! All of Disney World, Universal Studios, Dinner Shows, the strip (International Blvd.)...everything we possibly could in our two weeks there. That was our very first trip to Florida together. Since then we've been to Disney about 4,376 times (seriously...he won't let us go anywhere else. I'm at the point now where I'm recognizing cast members), but we haven't been back to Universal (Jesse's still a bit young for the scary-ass vomit inducing rides that are in that park), or to the dinner shows.
One dinner show that stood out for me was Dolly Parton's Dixie Stampede, however it was because of the soup, not the show (which I can barely remember). Unfortunately the Orlando location closed back in 2008. While the show wasn't a stand-out (not like Medieval Times...if you have little ones, that show is great! Google it, they have a bunch of locations), the food was excellent. In particular the Creamy Vegetable Soup.
This soup was a-m-a-z-i-n-g! Seriously...the best soup I ever had. I remember silently praying that Heath wouldn't finish all of his so I could have it, but that was ridiculous since Heath always cleans his plate. It took all my strength not to swipe the half-eaten bowl from the complete stranger sitting next to me...I LOVED it!
When we got home I searched and searched for the recipe, but it was nowhere to be found. At least not online. It was in Dolly's cookbook, but I refused to spend (at the time) $30 for a cookbook just to get one recipe (this was back before I actually cooked, when all our dinner's were either skillet meals or Schwan's). Anyway, for some reason this popped into my head the other day and I searched the web...and there it was!! I was so happy! I immediately printed it out and added it to my shopping list!
I made if for lunch yesterday afternoon and it was everything I remember it being! Creamy and filling, with a hint of garlic-y goodness. No short-cuts here people! I followed the recipe EXACTLY (it's not a difficult one), and it was absolutely delicious. I'm so glad to finally have the recipe.
SO! To end what may be my longest post ever, I absolutely recommend trying this soup. I'm not usually a soup kinda gal (save for chicken noodle of course), but this stuff is just so good. I think Dolly's Dixie Stampede Show is only running in Branson, MO and Dollywood in TN, but if you're near one stop by. Sure there's a show, but there's also soup! Some mighty fine Dixie Soup!

Gparee22...I'd say this would serve 4 regular sized servings. That bowl pictured above was pretty big, I was only able to eat half of it. I had about that same amount left over in the pan as well.
